Health and support services in Canada

Well, health and physical fitness is the first thing to keep safe while you are away from home. As you would be exposed to a completely new atmosphere, your body will be making adjustments against different environmental changes. The process would take time, but that “bit” might not be as short as it may sound. But, worry not! There are countless support services in Canada for international students, and all are prepared to help you to adjust. Here we have all of them listed; keep them in mind to get used to the way Canada is.

Various programs you can reach in relation to your wellbeing in Canada.

Read your Pre-arrival support guide:

The first thing that will help you to settle in Canada is the Pre-arrival support guide that your institute has given you. It has it all covered, from accommodation options to medical services. You will get the contact information of who to contact in each and specific problem. So, keep your Pre-arrival support guide with you at least for the first whole year.

Co-operate well with the available Campus support services:

Campus support services will be conducting different programs to support international students in every way. Their activities include educational workshops, academic support, etc. They sometimes also help students with internships and scholarships. So, co-operating and keeping in contact with them will make Canada a level easier to survive.

Student Association Support

In order to prevent international students from getting lost after admission and have their say in various things going on in their own institute, Many Canadian DLI's have formed Student Association Support which helps international students to manage all the things in Canada and as well as make them participate actively in everything like events and related stuff.

Student Association for Disabilities

Disable international students are handled with great care in Canadian institute's. The student association for disabilities is the group responsible for the same. They are even to talk with the concerned student's family during the admission process and will make any special arrangement asked for the wellbeing of the student.

For supporting the mental health of international students:

The Canadian government wants its international students to remain physically fit, but it will be incomplete if they lack mental fitness. So, to keep students mentally, some associations like The Canadian Mental Health Association, Crisis Services Canada, teenmentalhealth.org, etc., hand firm 24/7. At the same time, NEDIC (National Eating Disorder Information Centre) is there to help the cases of severe mental issues.

Help from the law- legal aid clinic

Being in a new country, the student generally lacks a clear idea of law. So to deal with legal issues concerning international students during their stay in Canada, the government has a Legal aid clinic for those who can't reach lawyers and consultants by themselves.

Help for outside- OFFcampus assistance

In case you are facing some issue as an international student in Canada and you want to take help from someone outside your campus. In this case, there are bodies acting outside. You can reach out to bodies like the Canadian Federation of Students in such cases.

A Mandatory thing to survive in Canada — Health Insurance

While many universities and Colleges in Canada ask for Health insurance as required during the admission process, and some others provide health insurance to their international students. But if you're in any different country, studying or working is a safe measure to obtain health insurance as a medical treatment there might be way too much for an international Student.

So, if you don't have one, contact some local doctor in Canada and ask for a health insurance process.

When anything is wrong- dial 911

It doesn't matter if you are in a safe country, you can face an emergency anytime. Always remember in any emergency while in Canada, just dial 911 and report it. You can even report in your mother language also.
